Team India larruped Hong Kong throughout their 40-run win in Dubai to cap their successful Group A campaign of the ongoing Asia Cup. Despite a dominant outing, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma faced criticism from ex-Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez.

“Was Sharma afraid of losing against Hong Kong?”, asks Hafeez

The Indian captain lost the toss to his Hong Kong counterpart and was asked to bat first. After the toss, Sharma claimed the pitch looks good for batting and he would have liked to field first on the surface as well.

Pakistan great Mohammad Hafeez took note of Sharma’s comments at the toss and described him as a confused personality. In a recent interview, he said:

“He is a confused personality right now, and his actions do not reflect what he says. Rohit Sharma is talking about the way we are doing this for the team. But it doesn't really happen like that and not everyone can see it.”

“In a way, he is saying that the pitch looks good, so we have to bat first. But he also says that he wanted to bowl. Was he afraid of losing the match against Hong Kong?”

Meanwhile, India’s win marked the 31st of Sharma’s T20I career as captain. He overtook his teammate Virat Kohli’s tally of 30 wins and is currently only behind MS Dhoni in terms of most successful T20I captain of the ‘Men in Blue’.

The Indian cricket team’s Asia Cup 2022 campaign will now continue with a match on September 4 in Dubai.
