Ashes 2023 | Cameron Green To Replace David Warner At Old Trafford? All-Rounder Opens Up

Australia's versatile all-rounder Cameron Green is determined to adapt to any position in the top order to secure his place in the Ashes starting XI for the upcoming Old Trafford Test. However, he recognizes the challenges of taking on his white-ball role as an opener in Test cricket due to the demanding responsibilities of both batting and bowling.

Green's absence in the third Test due to a minor hamstring issue provided an opportunity for Mitchell Marsh, who impressed with a scintillating century in Australia's first innings. This has left selectors in a quandary as they consider the team composition for the next match at Old Trafford.

There has been speculation regarding the potential inclusion of either Green or Marsh as an opening batter, replacing David Warner, who faced struggles in the previous match. However, Green, who has primarily batted below number 4 in his first-class career, acknowledges the difficulty of facing the new ball while also fulfilling the expectations of bowling lengthy spells with the older ball.

"It might be a bit tougher as an all-rounder when you have to bowl your 15 to 20 overs a game and then also bat at No. 4," Cameron Green expressed ahead of the fourth Ashes Test.

As an all-rounder, Green believes it would be a demanding task to bat in the top four. While former Australian cricketer Shane Watson is an example of an all-rounder who successfully combined opening the batting with bowling, Green is uncertain about the extent of Watson's bowling contributions.

"Shane Watson is probably the only opener who comes to mind doing that, but I'm not sure how much he bowled. However, anyone would be willing to bat in any position to play Test cricket. You always put yourself forward for selection but have to wait and see what the selectors decide," added Green.

Green's willingness to adapt and contribute wherever needed showcases his commitment to the team's success. The selectors will have a challenging task ahead as they weigh the options and determine the best combination for the fourth Ashes Test in Manchester.
