India registered their first-ever T20I series win against South Africa in India after beating them by 16 runs in Guwahati last evening. It was a batting treat for fans and spectators, with a total of 458 runs being scored by both sides.
The home team scored 237 runs after being asked to bat first, with their top-order firing all guns blazing. Surya Kumar Yadav, who is currently undergoing a purple patch with the bat, smashed 61 off 22 deliveries, which included five fours and as many sixes, to up the ante for the hosts.
During his knock, Yadav became the first player to record 50 T20I sixes in a single calendar year.
World number 1 T20I batter, Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan smashed 42 sixes last year while New Zealand's swashbuckling opener Martin Guptill comes a close third with 41 sixes in 2021.
The Mumbai-born batter also became the quickest batter to 1,000 T20I runs, taking only 573 balls.
In 2022 alone, Yadav has 793 runs with six fifties and one hundred.
Chasing 238, South Africa started poorly, but were brought back into the game courtesy David Miller. He along with Quinton de Kock added 174* runs for the fourth wicket, which included the left-hander registering his second T20I ton.
The final T20I of the series will be played on Tuesday at Indore.
