The 2023 IPL mini-auction saw a record breaking bid with Sam Curran, the English all-rounder was sold to the Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 18.5 cr. The highest ever in tournament history.

Curran surpassed Chris Morris as the highest bid (16.25), in fact, Cameron Green (17.5), the second highest bid also broke Morris' the record. The third highest bid, Ben Stokes, equalled the previous record.

Following the auction, Australian captain Aaron Finch did not shy away from saying that Curran has an edge over Stokes and Green. Although the skipper believes that the three players deserved the highest bids.

Finch believes Curran has an edge

"I think the only separation between Sam Curran, Ben Stokes and Cameron Green is Sam Curran's ability to bowl in the last five overs. His record has been unbelievable. So, that probably gives him the nod if you're going down the road of a bowling all-rounder,"

"He structures out any side tremendously  well because he can bat in the top four, he can bat in the top four, and you can bank on him to bowl four overs as well. So, thats a huge asset and I'm not surprised that all three of those guys have been paid what they have been paid there."
