Former England cricketer Roland Butcher has been appointed as a member of the West Indies senior and youth selection panel. Butcher, a former batter, will be in the panel alongside Desmond Haynes. Butcher's career was momentous as he was the first black man to play for England. Lead selector Haynes was Butcher's teammate in the English County Championship.

Butcher delighted with the appointment

“It’s a great honour and a privilege to be given the opportunity to serve West Indies cricket, I’m eager to get started to work alongside the other members of the selection panels as we look to ensure the growth and improvement in West Indies cricket at all levels.”

The panel also consists of former Jamaican captain and West Indies leg-spinner Robert Haynes. CWI confirmed the appointment following a board of directors meeting past Monday. The panel has been assigned the task of selecting the squads for the upcoming tours Zimbabwe and South Africa.
