In a major development, Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed legendary former cricketer Shahid Afridi as the interim chief selector for the home series against New Zealand.

The apex body completely revamped its selection panel, adding former cricketers Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum to the three-member committee.

In his reaction, Afridi expressed his gratitude for the PCB management committee and seemed determined to bring significant positive changes for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.

Here's what Afridi said

"I feel honoured to have been assigned this responsibility by the PCB Management Committee and will no stone unturned in fulfilling this responsibility to the best of my abilities,

"We need to get back to our winning ways and I have no doubts that through meritocratic and strategic selection decisions, we will help the national side to perform strongly in the series against New Zealand and reclaim the confidence of our fans."

The re-appointed PCB chairman Mr Najam Sethi also addressed Afridi as the ablest candidate for the role, hailing him for his experience and quality of backing young talents.

“Shahid Afridi has been an attacking cricketer who played all his cricket with no fear. He has nearly 20 years of cricket experience, has featured in all formats with significant success and more importantly, has always backed and supported young talent. So, in our collective opinion, there is no better person than him to understand the rigours, demands and challenges of the modern day game.”

In his 22-year-long international career, Afridi represented Pakistan in 524 international matches with astounding success, amassing 11,196 runs and scalping 541 wickets.

Meanwhile, hailed as one of the finest-ever seam bowling all-rounders from Pakistan, Razzaq has played 343 international matches for the Men in Green, garnering 7419 runs and claiming 389 wickets across formats.

On the other hand, Rao Iftikhar Anjum was primarily active in the ODIs from 2004 to 2010, as he has 77 wickets in 62 appearances in the 50-over format.
