Renowned for his humorous demeanor and ability to keep things light off the field, Indian captain Rohit Sharma engaged in a playful exchange with young cricketers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. The banter unfolded when Rohit jokingly questioned Kishan about not being selected despite scoring a double century. The lighthearted moment resulted in laughter among the trio.

Ishan Kishan's explosive knock of 210 runs from 131 balls against Bangladesh in Chattogram in December 2022, caught many eyeballs . With 24 fours and ten towering sixes, Kishan displayed a perfect blend of classical finesse and unbridled aggression. Despite this stellar performance, Kishan was dropped immediately after his double hundred and did not feature in the entire ODI series against Sri Lanka, where Shubman Gill was preferred as the opening partner of Rohit.

Kishan made a comeback in the first ODI against New Zealand, in the absence of the first-choice wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul, who was unavailable due to personal reasons. However, the comeback came with a twist, as Kishan, who generally bats as an opener, had to bat in the middle order while India stuck with the successful opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

In the match against New Zealand in Hyderabad, Gill rewrote history by smashing 208 runs off just 149 balls, including 19 boundaries and nine massive sixes. With this swashbuckling knock, Gill became the youngest batter ever to score an ODI double century.

Post-match, a humorous discussion ensued between Ishan, Gill, and skipper Rohit. The Hitman playfully asked Kishan why he didn't play in the ODIs despite scoring a double century.

"Ishan, yaar aapne 200 banake 3 match nahi khela. (Ishan, you didn't play for three matches despite scoring a 200),"  said Rohit.

Kishan's witty response to Rohit’s remark left everyone in splits.

"Bhaiyya captain toh aap ho (Brother, you are the captain). But theek hai sab cheez se sikh milti hai. (It's alright, you get to learn a lot from these things)," replied Kishan, emphasizing the learning experience despite the playful banter.

Despite Kishan playing as the first-choice wicketkeeper for India during New Zealand's tour, the ODI series proved challenging for the Jharkhand-based batter, who managed only 30 runs in three matches. Some argue that Kishan wasn't utilized in his preferred opening slot during the series.
