Sanju Samson and Delhi Capitals - (Source: AFP)
India's star batter Sanju Samson has been the talk of the town for the past couple of days, as there are rumours that the right-handed batter is all set to move to Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2026. The 30-year-old is unhappy at Rajasthan Royals after a disappointing season and wants a move away from the franchise.
Reports added that the trade deal between CSK and RR is in advanced stages and soon Samson will be unveiled as the new Chennai star. However, for the unversed, before the CSK trade, RR were in talks with Delhi Capitals, and Samson nearly completed a swap to his former franchise.
Rizvi's demand crushed Samson's homecoming wish
Delhi were happy to bring in Samson and okay to give away Tristan Stubbs to rope in the India star. However, the deal collapsed at the last moment, and the reason has been revealed as well.
According to a report from The Times of India, everything was in place for a homecoming as both teams agreed on a Samson-Stubbs swap, but RR owner Manoj Badale, who is personally overseeing the negotiations, made a bizarre demand at the last moment, which was to include uncapped India star Sameer Rizvi in the deal.
Delhi Capitals were unhappy with the ask, and the talks failed, ending on an abrupt note.
Why did Delhi Capitals refuse to give away Sameer Rizvi?
Sameer Rizvi was roped in by DC last year in the mega-auction for 95 lakhs. Further, Rizvi shone for the Capitals and slammed 121 runs in five innings.
Rizvi averaged 40.83 and batted at a scoring rate of 150+, which speaks volumes of his potential and why RR were after him, as Rizvi is likely to reach his peak in the coming seasons and looks like a player for the future.
