It was a careful start by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at their home stadium Ekana against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the first 3.3 overs but the game soon turned into a matter of few overs when spinners were brought into the attack.

Without their regular captain KL Rahul, LSG opened with Kyle Mayers and Manan Vohra for this encounter but the move didn't really pay off as they surrendered pretty quickly after that.

Mayers departed for 14 from 17 balls courtesy of Moeen Ali and then came Maheesh Theekshana who bagged two wickets on two consecutive deliveries to change the game. Vohra and skipper Krunal Pandya were the victims of his spin masterclass which was made more difficult to face due to the nature of the pitch.

Marcus Stoinis came in and left no impact as he walked back for six courtesy of a huge turning delivery that foxed him out of nowhere cleaning his off-stump.

Playing just his second IPL game, Karan Sharma was caught and bowled by Ali in the 10th over.

By the half-way stage of the LSG innings, scorecard read 44 for five down with Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran at the crease.
