Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last night was marred with huge controversy as Kohli and Gambhir engaged in an ugly verbal spat following the conclusion of the 43rd match of the TATA IPL edition.

During the customary handshake, Kohli got embroiled into a full blown altercation with the former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir, as the two were seen trading verbal exchange. This was not the first time the two clashed in a verbal confrontation. Soon after, Naveen-ul-Haq barged into the scene and said a few words which enraged the former Indian skipper, further adding fuel to fire.  In the end, the scene turned out to be very ugly and the support staff had to intervene to put a lid on the simmering heat.

Kohli and Gambhir, pleaded guilty and were fined 100 percent of their match fees for their heinous act of breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Amidst this fiasco, Kohli posted a cryptic message on his social media handle by citing a quote from the former Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, who ruled from 161 to 180 AD and was a philosopher as well.

“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”

Anil Kumble urged the players to keep their calm

The legendary spinner Anil Kumble, also expressed his views on the incident and was not very pleased with how the unfortunate events unfolded at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. He urged the players to keep calm and have mutual respect for one and another.

“Lot of emotion goes in (the game), but you don’t want to be displaying those emotions. Yes, you need to have a conversation but this is something that is unaccepted. No matter what, you have to respect the opposition. You have to respect the game,”

With this out of the way, both teams would look to put their heads down and focus on their upcoming fixtures. RCB will head to Mohali for their next encounter against PBKS while LSG will remain at home and host CSK in their next encounter on May 3.
