The International Cricket Council (ICC) has invited potential bidders from Australia, US, Canada and Caribbean markets for obtaining media rights to global cricketing tournaments.

Quiet recently, the apex body sealed a media rights deal with Disney Star for the lucrative Indian market through an undisclosed amount.

ICC continues media rights process after sealing Indian deal

While the Indian deal allowed the bidders to make separate bids for television and digital rights, the two will be up for grabs together in the four targeted sectors.

The package includes media rights to hosting men’s ICC events for four to eight years, starting from 2024. The men’s events also include the 2027 World Cup.

Meanwhile the media rights package for women’s competition features six events for four years, between 2024 and 2027. All deals are expected to be finalised before the end of the year, as per a report by ESPNCricinfo.

According to ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice, the US market is the one they believe has a lot of potential for growth. He said:

“The USA is one of the ICC's targeted growth markets, and with 30 million cricket fans already enjoying the sport there, a World Cup scheduled to be co-hosted in that country in 2024 and our exciting ambition for inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games, there couldn't be a better time for cricket to find a broadcast partner to help grow the game across the region.”
