The Bangladesh cricket team, currently on a limited-overs trip to Zimbabwe, lost the T20I segment of the tour to the hosts. Led by Mosaddek Hossain, the visitors fell 10 short of their target in the decider to concede the three-match series by a 1-2 margin.

Khaled Mahmud, the Bangladesh team director, has lambasted his players’ performance for the series defeat. A former Bangladesh captain himself, Mahmud said:

“I am very disappointed; I didn't expect to lose to Zimbabwe. We are a better team than them. I would call it a disgrace. I won't give any excuses. We should have won the T20I series.”

The former skipper also criticized his side’s lack of intent in the run-chase against Zimbabwe.

Set a 157-run target in the series-deciding third T20I, the Bangladeshi batsmen managed just 146 in their run-chase. Mahmud added:

“When we needed 10 or 12 runs an over, we were getting six or seven every over. Nobody even tried to hit a six. Everyone was playing for ones and twos. What was that? They batted like trying to protect their place, make enough runs so that they don't lose their place.”

Notably, the three-match series served as a testing ground for both sides ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

The Bangla Tigers, boosted with the return of Tamim Iqbal, will now proceed to play a three-match ODI series against the hosts at the Harare Sports Club.

The series is set to commence from August 5 and will conclude on August 10.
