Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in for Rajasthan Royals with a huge wicket of Virat Kohli in the Eliminator match of the IPL 2024 season. The leg-spinner deceived the legendary RCB opener early in his spell to finish with figures of 1-43 in four overs at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Notably, Chahal’s spell helped him scale a huge Rajasthan Royals IPL record, previously held by former all-rounder Shane Watson.
Yuzvendra Chahal on top of the pile for two franchises
Yuzvendra Chahal, who played 113 matches for the RCB franchise from 2014 till 2021, has represented the Rajasthan Royals group in 45 games since his joining in 2022. During his eight-season run for the RCB, the crafty leg-spinner clipped 139 wickets to top the leading wicket-taking charts for the franchise.
Moreover, Chahal now also finds himself as the leading wicket-taker for the Rajasthan Royals, considering the wicket he took of Virat Kohli in the IPL 2024 Eliminator extended his tally beyond Shane Watson’s to 66 wickets in just 45 matches.
In doing so, the 33-year-old became the first cricketer in the history of the IPL to lead the wicket-taking table of two different franchises in IPL matches concurrently.
In terms of his IPL 2024 performance, Yuzvendra Chahal has snapped 18 wickets from 14 games this season to lead the wicket-taking charge for his franchise. While the senior Rajasthan Royals bowler is ranked sixth on the IPL 2024 ‘Purple Cap’ race, he is the leading wicket-taker among all spinners of the competition.
Chahal’s wicket of Virat Kohli, coupled with a three-fer from Avesh Khan and timely strikes from Ravichandran Ashwin and Trent Boult helped Rajasthan Royals restrict RCB’s famed batting line-up to a moderate total upfront in the all-important Eliminator.
