Rajasthan Royals: 151/1 in 13.1 overs [Yashasvi Jaiswal 98* (47), Sanju Samson 48* (29)] beat Kolkata Knight Riders: 149/8 in 20 overs [Venkatesh Iyer 57 (42), Nitish Rana 22 (17); Yuzvendra Chahal 4/25 (4), Trent Boult 2/15 (3)] by 9 wickets.

Rajasthan Royals snapped their losing streak this IPL 2023 season by thumping the Kolkata Knight Riders in match number 56 of the tournament.

Yashasvi Jaiswal headlined the run-chase for the Royals with a masterful 98*, after ace spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had broken KKR’s back in the first innings of the contest.

Openers fail, Chahal prevails as KKR limited to 149

Rajasthan Royals speedster Trent Boult jolted KKR early by showing openers Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz their way back to the pavilion within the powerplay itself.

Venkatesh Iyer at number three provided some stability to the innings in the middle and scored a calculated fifty in doing so. Just when KKR began to put up some resistance against the Royals, Yuzvendra Chahal wrecked the hosts middle-order to have them floored at 129-6.

The veteran spinner claimed four wickets in his four overs, including that of dangermen Iyer, captain Nitish Rana, and IPL cult hero Rinku Singh.

About 22 runs were all KKR could manage in their final four overs, as they had to crawl their way to a moderate 149-8.

Yashasvi Jaiswal single-handedly overpowers KKR

Yashasvi Jaiswal straightaway punched down the accelerating pedal by belting 26 runs of the opening over of KKR captain Nitish Rana’s self-employed gambit. The dynamic opener raced to 62* alone within the powerplay, as losing partner Jos Buttler for an early duck did not seem to have any impact on the youngster.

The cricketer treated every KKR bowler with equal disrespect, as did his skipper Sanju Samson. Captain Samson himself blasted his way to five sixes in a 29-ball hurricane, as the duo saw off their task without further casualty.

As they raced to the finishing line with their unbeaten 121-run stand from just 69 deliveries, the Royals still had almost seven overs left in their bank.

The win granted Sanju Samson and co. their sixth of the season, and their first in their past four attempts as they jump back to playoffs reckoning. Meanwhile, the KKR slumped to number seven on the IPL 2023 points table, thus making the remaining two fixtures must-win ones for themselves.
