Yashasvi Jaiswal Shatters 90-Year-Old Record; A Historic Milestone In Test Cricket
Yashasvi Jaiswal [X]
The Indian team is facing Bangladesh in the first of the two-Test match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The visitors won the toss, put India to bat and had them under real pressure in the first two sessions of Day One.
Top Order Struggles: Key Batters Fall Cheaply
The Indian top-order, including Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, fell cheaply to the Bangladeshi pacer, Hasan Mahmud. The lethal spell by Mahmud had India reeling at 34/3 inside the first ten overs of their innings.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Resilience Amid Turmoil
While the experienced batters fell like nine pins, the young Indian opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, showed remarkable resilience and composure. He played a gutsy knock of 56 runs from 118 deliveries and held one end amidst the turmoil.
A Unique Record in Test Cricket History
With his 56 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a unique record in Test cricket. He became the first cricketer in the game’s 147-year history to score more than 750 runs in his first ten innings at home. Jaiswal broke a record that has lasted for nearly 90 years. The record previously belonged to George Headley of West Indies, who amassed 747 runs in 1935.

India’s Comeback with Ashwin and Jadeja
Coming back to the game, Jaiswal’s fight ended in the 42nd over of the innings, and KL Rahul soon followed him in the next over. India were looking down the barrel at this stage, struggling at 144/6.
But Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja stitched together an unbeaten partnership of 195 runs and staged India’s comeback. At the end of Day One, India had 339 runs on the boards after losing six wickets. Ashwin has gone past his century and will resume Day Two at 102* off 112 deliveries. Jadeja will be looking to notch up his century, resuming proceedings at 86 off 117 deliveries.
