The IPL caravan has reached Lucknow again, and in the 26th match, LSG are up against Shubman Gill's GT. Both the teams are coming off a win in this encounter with GT at the top of the table. Thus, both teams are in form and it promises to be a cracking encounter.
However, LSG are without their star opener, Mitchell Marsh. He is out due to the illness of his child, and it is a big blow to LSG as he has been one of the form players. LSG have included Himmat Singh in their playing XI, and now the question is who will open for them.
Will Matthew Breetzke Open For LSG vs GT?
Himmat Singh batted at number 4 in SMAT 2024, while in the Delhi Premier League, he batted at 3. Thus, he has the experience of playing in the top order and could be a straight swap for Mitchell Marsh. However, there is an option of Rishabh Pant opening for LSG in this game, as he has not been able to perform at number 4 this season.
However, as Marsh would be back for the next game most probably, the management might not like to change their captain's batting order on a temporary basis and help him settle at number 4 only. In such a scenario, Himmat Singh could open with Ayush Badoni coming in as an Impact Player in the second half.
However, there is an option of bringing in Matthew Breetzke who is an aggressive opener and can be a like-for-like replacement of Mitchell Marsh. It would mean that Himmat Singh and Rishabh Pant would both bat in the middle order with Ayush Badoni missing out. Thus, there are plenty of options at LSG's disposal, but if their skipper decides to give himself some more time in the middle, he could open in this game.
