On Sunday, May 18, Rajasthan Royals locked horns against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansigh Stadium. The Shreyas Iyer-led side won the toss and opted to bat first. Batting first, PBKS lost three early wickets but Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh took the onus on their shoulders and helped Punjab put 219 runs on the board.

Defending a big target of 220 runs, Punjab didn't execute their plans well as Rajasthan Royals got off to a blistering start and at the time of writing this article, they are on course of a win. Meanwhile, the Kings missed their captain Shreyas Iyer, who was subbed off in the 2nd innings and did not take the field which left the fans worried.

Why Didn't Shreyas Iyer Take The Field vs Rajasthan Royals?

It is worth noting that Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury in his index injury a day before the crucial match against Rajasthan Royals. Even during the toss, Iyer was spotted with heavy taping around his index finger. Thus, the injury forced him to go out of the field in the 2nd innings. The extend of his injury is yet to be known and it is expected that Shreyas might also act as an impact sub in their upcoming IPL match.

Nonetheless, Iyer was spotted on the sidelines and constantly guided his players and gave instructions to Shashank Singh, who was the acting skipper in Iyer's absence. Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, Punjab Kings are back in the hunt as RR are 144/4 after 13.2 overs and Harpreet Brar has taken a three-wicket haul.
