Devon Conway isn't playing vs LSG [Source: AP]
In a significant development, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the toss and opted to bowl first against Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) in match 30 of the ongoing IPL 2025 season. At toss, CSK skipper MS Dhoni stated that the visitors would bowl first in order to capitalise on Ekana Stadium's playing conditions.
Why Is Devon Conway Not Playing LSG vs CSK IPL Match?
CSK have made two major changes, replacing Devon Conway and Ravichandran Ashwin with Shaik Rasheed and Jamie Overton, respectively. The Super Kings have picked four overseas players- Rachin Ravindra, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad and Matheesha Pathirana - with Conway missing out on selection.
Despite scoring 94 runs in three innings, Conway's strike rate of 127.03 has been a cause of concern for Dhoni's CSK this season. Considering Conway has struggled to accelerate, the five-time champions have opted for a more dynamic option, including Rasheed in their line-up.
New Zealand's experienced opener Devon Conway hasn't had a great IPL season so far. He managed only 13 runs in his maiden IPL 2025 outing before scoring a scratchy 49-ball 69 against Punjab Kings. His inability to accelerate forced CSK to retire him out in the high-profile contest.
The last game was also forgettable for Conway, as he was trapped plumb in front by ace KKR spinner Moeen Ali.
