On Monday, August 4, Pakistan and the West Indies locked horns against each other for the 3rd and final T20I in Florida, USA. It was a do-or-die match for both teams as the series was levelled at 1-1.
Meanwhile, after the toss, Salman Ali Agha dropped a bombshell after he revealed that Shaheen Afridi is not a part of the playing XI. The internet went into shock after they got to know that the left-arm seamer will not play the series-decider match, but why did Shaheen miss out? Was it a strategic development or any sort of injury concern?
Why Did Shaheen Afridi Not Play in the 3rd T20I vs West Indies?
It is clear that there were no injury concerns as Agha Salman made no such revelation during the toss. Thus, it all indicates that Afridi was dropped from the playing XI. However, Agha revealed that Afridi was rested. Although, it makes little sense to rest someone of Afridi's stature in the crucial match.
Why Was Shaheen Afridi Dropped From The Playing XI?
The 25-year-old made a return to the T20I set-up after a long time for the West Indies tour, but the left-arm seamer failed to make an impact as Shaheen picked up just two wickets in two innings.
In the first T20I, Afridi gave away 27 runs in four overs, while he leaked 31 runs in the second T20I, where he failed to defend crucial runs in the death overs.
Afridi's Absence Sparks Rift Rumours
During the ongoing tour, there were rumours that all is not well between Shaheen Afridi and captain Salman Ali Agha. The rumours spread like wildfire on the internet, resulting in the PCB stepping in and clarifying that there is no such development and also threatening legal action for those spreading fake news.
However, the recent act has again reignited rift rumours between the left-arm seamer and the T20I skipper.
