In KKR’s recent match against RR, Andre Russell’s absence with the ball left fans baffled on the internet. Many questioned skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s tactics of not using Russell as a bowler when the latter has a proven record of success in death overs.
Kolkata Knight Riders faced Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 season. RR batted first in Guwahati but the slow pitch resulted in a collapse. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyal Parag contributed with 29 and 25 runs respectively.
Dhruv Jurel added a crucial 33 off 28 balls while no other batter from his team stepped up.
KKR Fans Lash Out At Rahane For Not Using Andre Russell As Bowler
Meanwhile, with wickets falling at regular intervals, KKR had a chance to restrict RR’s scoring rate in the death overs. Despite Spencer Johnson’s bad form, captain Ajinkya Rahane backed him to bowl the final few overs.
However, this decision didn’t sit well with fans. They questioned the absence of Andre Russell from bowling. Many fans argued that Russell picked up 19 wickets in the last IPL season and has a proven track record of having success in death overs.
A few fans on social media were also concerned about Russell’s fitness and they dropped their opinion on X platform.

"russell if u can hear me i think u should go bowling i think u should go bowling go crazy go CRAZYYYYYYYYYY CAN YOU HEAR ME." - @lecdiary
Meanwhile, despite KKR’s noteworthy bowling effort, RR managed to get 151 runs on the board at the loss of nine wickets in the first inning. With the pitch being slow and assisting spinners, the total could be challenging for KKR.
