'We Can't Go One Dimensional...,' Sanju Samson After Win Over CSK

Rajasthan Royals displaced CSK from the top of the IPL 2023 points table with a big win in match number 37 of the tournament. Under Sanju Samson’s leadership, the Royals outplayed MS Dhoni’s pantheons across all departments to consign the latter to just their third defeat this season.

Notably, the match was also Rajasthan Royals’ 200th IPL fixture, and they celebrated the occasion in grand style in front of their home crowd in Jaipur.

After the contest, winning captain Sanju Samson spoke about the importance of the win and hailed his team’s attacking mindset of late.

Sanju Samson credits youngsters for big total upfront

Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals are currently placed at the top of the IPL 2023 points table, having secured five wins from their eight fixtures.

He described the importance of his side’s win against the CSK and revealed why he chose to bat first in the game. During the presentation ceremony, he said:

“Winning this game was needed for the team atmosphere and for the fans, also our first win in Jaipur. We can't go one dimensional; if you're playing in Chinnaswamy or Wankhede, you will chase but looking at the conditions here, I took the chance to bat first,”

Acknowledging Yashasvi Jaiswal’s match-winning 77 at the top and sparkling cameos from Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal in the death overs, Samson said that every youngster delivered with the bat in the game. He further praised the team’s attacking mindset this season, and credited the team management for assisting players at every turn in training sessions.

“Even when we batted, all the youngsters came in and did the job. The mindset of attacking is a nice change. Credit has to go to the management and the support staff for what players are doing, you see Jaiswal at the RR academy during the off-season playing a lot of balls.”

Rajasthan Royals will now face the Mumbai Indians on April 30. The match will be played out at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
