Younis Khan seems to be enjoying Afghanistan’s run-fest against England in match eight of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The legendary Pakistani batter, who was appointed as Afghanistan’s team mentor a month prior to the launch of the eight-team tournament, was spotted cheering to a sizzling cut shot from Mohammad Nabi off Jamie Overton during the 42nd over of the match.

The boundary in contention marked Nabi’s first of the innings as he shared a scintillating fifty-plus partnership with centurion Ibrahim Zadran during the slog overs.

Mohammad Nabi impresses legendary Younis Khan

Batting at number seven, Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi arrived to the crease at the end of the 40th over of the innings following the dismissal of Azmatullah Omarzai. After biding his time for a couple of overs, Nabi slashed English speedster Jamie Overton for a sizzling boundary over point.

The shot in contention even impressed legendary Pakistani batter and current Afghanistan mentor Younis Khan, who could not stop applauding the veteran’s attempt at late acceleration.

Prior to the match, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat first. The team lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah all in quick succession to crash to 37-3 at one stage of the match.

However, a 103-run partnership between Ibrahim Zadran and captain Shahidi lifted Afghanistan past the 100-run mark, before another 72-run partnership between the opener and Azmatullah Omarzai provided the backend impetus to the innings.

Zadran went on to whack a scintillating 150-plus score as Afghanistan soared past 300 runs with plenty of time to spare.
