[Watch] Wanindu Hasaranga Plays Naveen Ul Haq Like A Spinner; Slams Him For A Six With Ease In CPL 2024
Wanindu Hasaranga's explosive shot (X)
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots are playing against the Barbados Royals in the ninth match of the ongoing CPL 2024 at Warner Park in St. Kitts. After being invited to bat first by Royals' captain Rovman Powell, the Patriots collapsed early and lost three crucial wickets without a single run on the board.
Maheesh Theekshana Provides Early Breakthrough
Mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana struck in the very first over, and dismissed Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers, for silver ducks. The Patriots' troubles deepened when the young Sri Lankan left-arm spinner, Dunith Wellalage claimed the wicket of captain Andre Fletcher, also for a silver duck, in the second over.
Wanindu Hasaranga's Quick Cameo
However, Wanindu Hasaranga provided a much-needed lifeline for the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots after their disastrous start.
Despite wickets falling around him, Hasaranga stepped up and played a crucial knock of 40 runs off 27 balls. He formed an important partnership with Mikyle Louis, who contributed with 30 runs off 20 balls.
Hasaranga’s quick-fire innings brought some relief to the Patriots, and one shot in particular stole the show. In the 6th over, facing Naveen ul Haq, Hasaranga smashed a short ball outside off with a fierce uppercut over deep point for a massive six. This shot brought up the 50-run mark for the Patriots, and even provided the home crowd something to cheer for after a shaky start.
Wanindu Hasaranga and Mikyle Louis stitched a fifty-run stand for the fourth wicket. But once Louis and Hasaranga departed, a couple more wickets fell and the Patriots found themselves in a difficult situation. Patriots finished their innings 153/8 from their 20 overs.
