Virat Kohli's ‘Bail Swap’ Trick Fails Against Australia [Source: @45kennyat7PM/X.com]
India star batter Virat Kohli is always known for his dedication and energy on the field. In the ongoing Pink-Ball Test between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval, Kohli tried a unique trick to turn things in their favour. This match is important for bot the side as it could determine their chances of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final 2025.
Although Kohli didn’t shine with the bat in the first innings, he stayed active and animated throughout Australia’s innings. In a moment of improvisation, Kohli swapped the bails on the stumps just before the 31st over when India pacer Jasprit Bumrah was about to bowl. The idea was truly inspired by Stuart Broad’s famous “bail-change” superstition, aimed at shifting the team’s luck. Unfortunately, the trick didn’t yield any wickets for India.
The right handed batter, who had scored a century in the previous match, couldn’t replicate his performance this time. He managed just 7 runs off 8 balls before falling to Mitchell Starc, who delivered a sensational spell, claiming a five-wicket haul —his 15th in Test cricket.
India struggled with the bat, getting bowled out for just 180 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scored with 42 runs, but no other batter managed to cross the 50-run mark.
Australia Takes Control On Day 1
In response, Australia’s Nathan McSweeney (38*) and Marnus Labuschagne (20*) batted confidently, forming an unbeaten partnership of 62 runs for the second wicket. By the end of Day 1, Australia reached 86/1, trailing India by just 94 runs and holding the upper hand in the game.
