Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis played a pivotal role with the bat as he helped his side get off to a steady start in the all-important IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings. Opening the batting, Du Plessis struck a glorious 39-ball 54 before a controversial run out at the non-striker's end concluded his stay in the middle.

The incident took place during the thirteenth over of RCB's innings when the hosts were bossing the game, courtesy of the openers' flamboyant knocks.

After keeping things tight and conceding only five singles off his first five deliveries, ace CSK spinner Mitchell Santner pitched one up, with Rajat Patidar hitting it straight down the ground off his front foot.

However Santner managed to get a hand to the ball before it dislodged the bails at the non-striker's end. After seeing the replay from multiple angles, the TV umpire decided on CSK's favour, declaring Du Plessis short of his crease.

The third umpire found Faf's bat in the air, which wasn't conceived well by the RCB players. They were convinced that the skipper had made his ground and was unfairly given out in the high-voltage encounter.

The decision also didn't go well with legendary batter Virat Kohli, who expressed his surprise over the TV umpire's call.

Nevertheless, Cameron Green joined Patidar in the middle after Du Plessis' departure. As of writing, the hosts were 138 for two in 15 overs.
