Virat Kohli Beats Tendulkar As He Crosses 1000 ODI Runs In A Calendar Year Most Times

Virat Kohli is a legend of the game and there will be very few in the cricketing world who will doubt it. His consistency over the last 15 years has taken the world by storm and over the years, he has blasted plenty of batting records in his illustrious career. Virat Kohli is now playing his fourth 50-over World Cup and against Sri Lanka at Wankhede, he has broken yet another big record.

Over the years, he has been constantly compared with Sachin Tendulkar and looks set to break Sachin's record of 49 ODI centuries. He has 48 centuries in ODIs now and coming into the game against the Lankans, he needed 34 runs to get to 1000 runs in ODIs in a calendar year.

India were invited to bat first against the Lankans and after Rohit Sharma departed on the second delivery of the game, Virat Kohli walked onto the field and started building a solid partnership with Shubman Gill. He soon got to 34 runs that he needed to reach 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year and achieved the feat for the record 8 times. He beat Sachin's record of 7 1000-plus ODI runs in a calendar year and has now become the batter who has scored 1000-plus ODI runs in a calendar year for the most times in the history of the game.
