Riding on Jasprit Bumrah's sensational new ball spell, India made a remarkable comeback in the ongoing World Cup match against England. After cleaning up Dawid Malan, the ace speedster trapped Joe Root with an absolute beauty.
On a sluggish track, India managed to post a modest 229-run total, thanks to valuable contributions from Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul. Chasing 230, England were off to a solid start, as Malan and Jonny Bairstow struck a flurry of glorious boundaries.
However, Bumrah helped India bounce back in the game, dismissing Malan and Root in consecutive deliveries.
After castling Malan with a back-of-the-length delivery, Bumrah bowled an inswinger, which struck Root on his front pad. It looked plumb in front of the stumps in real time, as the on-field umpire raised his finger, declaring the Englishman out.
Although Root went upstairs, the third umpire upheld the on-field umpire's decision, as the replay showed three reds in the Hawkeye.
Bumrah as well as former Indian captain Virat Kohli celebrated as soon as the decision was displayed on the big screen.
As of writing, England are in a spot of bother, placed at 33 for two in 6.2 overs, with Bairstow and Ben Stokes unbeaten in the middle.
