In a remarkable achievement, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has completed 18000 runs in international cricket. The stylish right-handed batter attained the landmark during India's ongoing World Cup clash against England at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

After being put into bat first, India had a disastrous start to their innings, losing Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in quick succession. Their number four batter Shreyas Iyer also had a forgettable day, as Chris Woakes dismissed him for a sloth-paced 16-ball four.

However, Sharma, alongside keeper-batter KL Rahul, brought the Indian innings back on track, stitching a crucial stand for the fourth wicket.

In this process, the veteran Mumbaikar completed 18000 runs in international cricket with a glorious boundary off Adil Rashid.

It was a full-length leg break from Rashid, as Rohit went down on one knee to sweep him. He timed it beautifully, with the ball racing down towards the square leg fence for four runs. Thus, he became only the fifth Indian batter to breach the 18000-run mark across formats.

Sharma has showcased sublime form in the ongoing World Cup, ensuring great start for India in almost every game. As of writing, India are 81 for three in 23.1 overs, with Sharma and Rahul batting on 49* and 19*, respectively.
