The decision to include Mohammed Shami in Team India's Playing XI has yielded positive results. The Indian right-arm fast bowler claimed the first wicket against New Zealand at the HPCA Stadium. This encounter is part of the 21st match in the 2023 World Cup.

The 33-year-old pacer secured the wicket in the very first ball of the 8th over. India had opted to field first, and this decision proved fruitful as they took two wickets in the first 8 overs.

During the 8th over, Rohit Sharma introduced Mohammed Shami into the bowling attack, and he dismissed Young (17) with his very first delivery, achieving a first-ball wicket. One might wonder why the Indian management had kept him on the bench for so long.

Shami delivered a length ball that produced extra bounce off the pitch, which took the batsman by surprise. Young attempted a cut shot, but the ball ended up dragging back onto his stumps.

The celebration was visible within the Indian team, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma exuberantly marking the wicket.

At the moment, the score stands at 40/2 in 10 overs, with Daryl Mitchell on the crease with 3* and Rachin at 6*.
