In a high-voltage clash between two still unbeaten sides in the World Cup 2023 on a blockbuster Sunday, India opted to field first against New Zealand in Match 21 of the ongoing edition at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.

As expected, the Men in Blue have made two forced changes to keep their balance intact. Hardik Pandya, who injured himself during India’s previous encounter against Bangladesh, won’t be playing, with Suryakumar Yadav taking his place. The other changes is that, considering India’s five proper bowling options, Mohammed Shami has replaced Shardul Thakur.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have not made any changes in their lineup.

IND vs NZ: Captains’ Thoughts

Rohit Sharma

“We'll bowl first. No reason; we were here training yesterday and felt a bit of dew come in. It looks like a good pitch; we'll back ourselves to chase. It is quite important to keep the momentum going and forget what happened in the past. You need to be at it all the time. This is one place everyone wants to come and play, with beautiful weather and a nice stadium. Hardik isn't available, nor is Shardul. We've got Shami and Surya.”

Tom Latham

“We'd have bowled first as well. It looks like a good surface, and we know the dew will come in. The important thing is that whatever we do, we need to do well. We need to keep the momentum going. We are on new ground with new conditions, so we need to adjust to these conditions as quickly as we can. We've got the same team for today - three seamers and two spinners.”
