Skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opted out of India’s playing XI in the second ODI against West Indies in Bridgetown. As it turned out, the latter of the two still managed to make his presence felt on the field, albeit in a different role.

Kohli was seen carrying drinks during a short break at the end of the 37th over of the Indian innings. The batting veteran made his way on to the field alongside long-time teammate Yuzvendra Chahal.

Kohli carries drinks for Yadav and Thakur amidst break

Virat Kohli, after taking field in India’s five-wicket win over hosts West Indies in the first ODI, decided to rest himself for the second. The decision came as a surprise to many, considering the ongoing series serves as a dress rehearsal for Team India ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2023 at home.

Nonetheless, the legendary cricketer made his way into the field in a different role. During a short break between overs, the 34-year-old carried drinks for unbeaten batters Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur, and was accompanied by his teammate Yuzvendra Chahal.

In the meantime, the Indian team surely felt Kohli and Sharma’s absence on the batting front as they were shot out for just 181 upon batting first.

Opener Ishan Kishan top-scored in the innings with his run-a-ball 55, while Shubman Gill squandered away his start after scoring a brisk 34.
