IND vs WI | A Tough Day Curtails As Indian Batting Crumble Against Windies in Kohli, Rohit's Absence

In the second ODI against West Indies, the toss was won by the hosts, and captain, Shai Hope, chose to field first on a slow and sluggish pitch. This was the same venue where the first ODI took place, which turned out to be a low-scoring match, with India securing a 5-wicket victory.

A surprising decision by the Indian team shocked everyone as captain Rohit Sharma was given a rest for the second ODI, and consequently, Hardik Pandya took charge as the team's stand-in skipper. Furthermore, Virat Kohli, who had performed exceptionally well during the Test series, was also rested for this encounter. Instead, Sanju Samson and Axar Patel were included in the playing XI as replacements.

Following a solid 90-run opening partnership between Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, India's grip on the contest slipped away. The Men in Blue lost half of their team with only 113 runs on the board in 24.1 overs before rain interrupted the match in Barbados. Gill was the first to depart, scoring 34 runs off 49 deliveries before being dismissed by Gudakesh Motie. Shortly after, Ishan Kishan's run-a-ball innings of 55 came to an end as he was brilliantly caught by Alick Athanaze.

The situation worsened for India when Axar Patel was dismissed for a mere 1 run by Romario Shepherd. And then, Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson fell in successive deliveries, both scoring in single digits, compounding India's troubles. India lost its five wickets all in just 23 runs.

However, as Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja walked on the field it seemed as if things weren't as bad as it seemed. But almost as if we spoke to soon, Shepherd claimed his third wicket as he put an end to their partnership with Jadeja's wicket. He bowled a short-of-a-length delivery on the stumps, Jadeja stayed inside the crease and attempted a pull shot, but unfortunately, he got a top edge on it.  And, Jadeja was dismissed for 10 runs off 21 deliveries.

In the immediate next over, Motie bowled to Surya, and while on the back foot, he attempted to cut the ball over backward point. Unfortunately, he couldn't clear the infield, and the fielder at short backward point made a good catch, leaping to his left. Surya walked back with a low score just 24 runs.

Shardul Thakur's 16-run stint was brought to a halt, courtesy Alzarri Joseph's full-length ball. The final wickets came in quick succession, with Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav making 14 runs in total.

It would be interesting to see how the Indian bowlers defend their total against West Indies who seem to be in good form.

Brief Score

Ishan Kishan- 55/55, Shubman Gill - 34/49
