Out-of-favour opener Mayank Agarwal is currently enjoying a terrific run in domestic cricket, having scored 990 runs in Ranji Trophy 2022-23 and helping South Zone reach the final of the Duleep Trophy 2023.

Speaking on the sidelines of the final in Bengaluru, the Karnataka batter opened up about his Team India comeback and more. Agarwal, who last played a Test for India in 2022, said that he wants to score runs and win matches for his team and not focus much on other things.

Here's what Agarwal said

"See, I am somebody who does not think too much about it. I have been dealt a hand and I don't have much control on what hand I have been dealt with. But I really want to put in everything from my side. On every given opportunity, I want to go out there, score runs and win games. Whatever has to come its way, it will come."

"I don't look at it as pressure, as I look at it as opportunity. Like I said, wherever I play, whichever tournament I play I want to go and get runs. I am somebody who I can ask myself some tough questions over the years."

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also revealed that keeping personal goals aside, he is determined to win the final with South Zone.

Post the Duleep Trophy 2023, Agarwal will lead South Zone in Deodhar Trophy 2023, which gets underway from July 24 in Puducherry.

Overall, in 21 Test and 5 ODIs, the 32-year-old has scored 1,488 and 86 runs, respectively.

As of writing, South Zone, captained by Hanuma Vihari, has been bundled out for 213 against West Zone in the first session of Day 2.

Notably, Agarwal was omitted from India's Test squad for Windies tour, for which the team management went for younger names such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
