It needed a special catch to dismiss a special player in the Big Bash League (BBL) knockout match between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars. Marcus Stoinis was the main man for the Stars in a bid to achieve the target of 136 runs, however, the star player failed to deliver the goods and was dismissed after playing a scratchy knock.
On a sluggish wicket of Sydney Showground Stadium, the Stars needed a paltry 136 to seal their place in the Challenger Vs Sydney Sixers. However, the team lost the momentum with the bat and all hopes lost when Stoinis was trapped by the brilliance of George Garton.
It was a nothing delivery from Chris Green as he bowled it short and Stoinis decided to take his chance against the bowler. He pulled it hard, but couldn't get the power and elevation. Garton at deep mid wicket charged forward towards the ball and stretched with a brilliant dive to take one of the best catches of this season.
Stars losing momentum
After the end of the Thunder batting, the game was their for the Stars to win, however, the team just failed to capitalise on the momentum and lost wickets at regular intervals. Sam Harper, Thomas Rogers and Peter Handscomb departed early as the Stars lost 3 early wickets.
Onus was on Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell to steer their team to victory, but that didn't happen as Maxwell followed Stoinis back to the pavilion and was dismissed for a quick-fire 28 off 21 balls.
The ball was gripping and Thunder spinners utilised the conditions to perfection as they trapped the Stars' batters in their web.
