In an intense knockout match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars, Glenn Maxwell displayed some serious aggression while fielding. The match, held at the Sydney Showground Stadium on January 22, saw Maxwell take a spectacular catch that reminded many of his former RCB teammate, Virat Kohli.
Like Kohli, who is known for silencing the crowd with a finger on his lips, Maxwell followed suit and did the same after pulling off an amazing catch.
It was the 7th over of Sydney Thunder's innings when the drama unfolded. Usama Mir bowled a delivery to Matthew Gilkes, who attempted a big shot to clear the boundary but ended up under-hitting it. Maxwell, stationed at long-on, was quick to jump in the air and grabbed a sharp catch.
After taking the catch, Maxwell turned back towards the crowd and celebrated by holding a finger to his lips, signalling silence, a gesture that instantly made the crowd hush.
Melbourne Stars Strike Early Vs Thunder
The match was a knockout, adding extra pressure to both teams, and the tension was palpable in the air. Earlier in the game, Melbourne Stars had an excellent start when they removed David Warner for a duck in the very first over, thanks to a brilliant delivery from Tom Curran. Shortly after, Usama Mir sent Hugh Weibgen back to the pavilion for just 11 runs with a simple catch.
At the time of writing this article, Sydney Thunder are at 81 for 4 in 12.4 overs, with the match remaining evenly balanced.
