Rajasthan Royals batters launched an all-out attack on Chennai Super Kings in the 37th match of IPL 2023 tonight. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal listed an imperial 43-ball 77 at the top and formed an 86-run stand with senior partner Jos Buttler.

Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal capitalised on the explosive opening start and backed it up with thunderous cameos in the death overs. Shimron Hetmyer, however, failed to dazzle on the evening as the West Indies-based dynamic batter was cleaned up for just eight by overseas CSK spinner Maheesh Theekshana.

Theekshana has remained captain MS Dhoni’s first-choice spinner in CSK’s playing XI for the past few games. The young Sri Lankan is one-third of a potent spin attack employed by the CSK team management this season, alongside all-round heavyweights Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali.

Theekshana gets rid of Hetmyer

Shimron Hetmyer has been striking at above 160 for the Rajasthan Royals this season. In his quest of yet another death overs fury against the CSK, the cricketer perished to a carrom delivery from 22-year-old Theekshana.

While attempting a cut short for a boundary, all Hetmyer managed was to get a bottom edge onto the stumps. The Sri Lankan spinner celebrated the dismissal in his trademark style, giving a slight send-off to the Guyana-based veteran.

Rajasthan Royals eventually slammed 202-5, courtesy of Jurel’s 15-ball 34 and Padikkal’s 13-ball 27*.

Chennai Super Kings, in response, wiped 68 runs off their target within the first nine overs of their innings. In-form Devon Conway failed to register his fifth successive half-century of the season, as he was shown the pavilion’s way by Adam Zampa.
