England, off the back of Dawid Malan’s career-best hundred and Reece Topley’s new-ball assault, handed Bangladesh a huge 137-run defeat in their latest World Cup 2023 outing in Dharamshala. Chasing a colossal 365 to win, the Bangladesh tail hung around a while to delay the inevitable after they were reduced to 121-5 at one stage.

Taskin Ahmed was one such Bangladeshi tail-ender who smacked a few in the death, before his dismissal eventually folded up his side for 227 inside 49 overs of their run-chase. Remarkably, the specialist fast bowler survived Sam Curran’s scorching in-swinging delivery in the penultimate over of the match, even though the ball had clipped his leg stumps while zipping past him.

Taskin Ahmed, in his bid to score some handy deficit-reducing runs in the death overs, tried swatting Sam Curran over to his leg side. The tail-ender missed out on his full-throttled attempt on the first ball of the penultimate over of the innings as Curran’s inswinging delivery brushed past his leg stump.

Despite clipping the stumps, Ahmed’s furniture at the crease remained unmoved, thus tendering Curran wicketless in his spell.

Nonetheless, Sam Curran cleaned up Ahmed off the very next delivery to conclude the one-sided proceedings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.

Bangladesh’s 137-run defeat in the match marked their first loss of the tournament, considering they had comprehensively routed Afghanistan by six wickets in their previous outing.
