Fortune Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal pulled off a MS Dhoni-like finish for his team against Durbar Rajshahi in match number 10 of the BPL 2024-25 season. Opening the innings for Barishal alongside Pritom Kumar, Tamim punched out an unbeaten 86 from just 48 balls with 11 boundaries and three sixes at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Notably, the seasoned Bangladeshi opener launched the last of those sixes to bring up the winning runs for Fortune Barishal in just the 18th over of their run-chase.

Tamim Iqbal stepped out of his crease and dispatched Durbar Rajshahi spinner Hasan Murad outside the boundary ropes for a huge six to bring up the winning runs for the Fortune Barishal. Iqbal’s roaring hit extended his own innings to 86* from just 48 balls with 11 boundaries and three sixes, and ensured Fortune Barishal claimed an emphatic seven-wicket win with 15 balls to spare.

The winning moment drew much parallels with former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who frequently pulled off run-chases with match-winning sixes during his international playing days.

Chasing 169 runs to win, Tamim Iqbal shared match-defining partnerships with Kyle Mayers, Towhid Hridoy and finally an unbeaten one with fellow senior man Mushfiqur Rahim. The two cricketers stitched 76 runs together for the fourth wicket from just 45 balls after forming forces at 93-3 in 10 overs.

Earlier in the match, Durbar Rajshahi hauled 168-4 from 20 overs, with captain Anamul Haque’s 39 serving as the biggest benefactor of the innings. Yasir Ali and opener Jishan Alam also clattered swift 30s from their ends before Shaheen Afridi picked up two key wickets in the slog overs.

Nonetheless, the outcome marked Fortune Barishal’s second win of the BPL 2024-25 season from three matches as they jumped to number three on the seven-team points table.
