The Big Cricket League 2024 had its inaugural match on December 12 when Northern Challengers locked horns with Southern Spartans. The league is known for its captive mix of matured cricketers and young talents and to the delight of fans, Indian cricket team veteran Suresh Raina, aka 'Mr. IPL', is also participating in the league.

Known for his flamboyant and explosive playing style, Raina was popular amongst fans for his exceptional flick shots. The vintage form, however, still hold up as Raina replicated his trademark shot against the Challengers.

In the last ball of the 16th over, Raina delighted the fans at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, by turning back the time and showcasing his signature shot at Anureet Singh's delivery.

As Anukreet came over the wicket to pitch a ball that bounced on the full length directed towards the leg stump, Suresh Raina, keeping his eye on the ball, picked it up and sent the ball sailing over square leg for a spectacular six.

Though the shot was a treat to the crowd as well as the commentators, Raina departed on the very next ball because of a run out. Nevertheless, he played a commendable inning scoring 49 runs off 27 balls while bagging 7 boundaries and a single six.

Raina's Efforts Went In Vain As Shikhar Dhawan Powers Challengers' Win

As of the match, Challengers, led by Shikhar Dhawan chose to bowl first. Though Spartans had a shaky start with wickets falling early, Shrestha and skipper Raina partnered for a good 85 off 50 during the middle overs. Late fireworks from Aman Khan and Abhimanyu Mithun were significant additions for racking Spartan's score to a whopping 203.

In the next innings, what seemed to be a challenging total to chase in 20 overs was cleaned up by the Challengers like a cakewalk, thanks to their skipper Dhawan. The in-form India veteran notched up a lightning 86 off 43 deliveries to build a solid start. Though NC kept losing a couple of wickets in the middle, Bipul Sharma finished off the match in style with a boundary with 8 deliveries still left to play.
