The Washington Freedom are taking on the San Francisco Unicorns in the final of the MLC 2024. This match is being played at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

The San Francisco Unicorns Captain, Corey Anderson won the toss and opted to field first in the match. The opening duo of the Washington Freedom of Steve Smith and Travis Head have been one of the prime reasons behind the wonderful cricket that the team has played in the tournament. They would have hoped for another wonderful start from the duo. However, Pat Cummins had something else in his mind.

The former Kiwi all-rounder and the skipper of the Unicorns, Corey Anderson turned to Pat Cummins in the second over of the match. The Australian ODI and Test skipper, Cummins is known to delivery in crunch situations and in big matches. This is exactly what he did in the MLC 2024 final.

Pat Cummins remove early threats of Head

Travis Head, who is known for his aggressive batting could have taken the game away from the San Francisco Unicorns pretty early if he found his rhythm. However. Cummins did not allow that to happen. On the second delivery of the second over, the Australian pacer got rid of Head. Cummins bowled a back of a length delivery angling across the batter. Travis head lined himself up and swung hard across the line of the ball. All he managed was a thick outside edge that was taken easily Finn Allen at first slip.

This was a big wicket in the context of the game a pretty early shock to them. However, Steve Smith played a classic knock of 88 runs from 52 deliveries and was ably accompanied by Glenn Maxwell's cameo (40 off 22). These efforts by the two Australian batters helped the Freedom post a total of 207/5 in their 20 overs. Being the big finals that total that the Freedom posted was bound to pose a big challenge to the Unicorns.
