Shubman Gill was dismissed for just 2 runs off 7 balls during India’s group-stage match against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 2, 2025, in the Champions Trophy. The India vice-captain, who had been in great form during the tournament, was sent back early.

How Matt Henry Trapped Shubman Gill

The wicket came in the third over of India’s innings when Matt Henry bowled a delivery that trapped Gill in front of the stumps. Henry pitched the ball on a good length around the middle stump. Gill moved across his stumps, attempting to flick it away, but missed the ball and was hit on the front pad. The umpire immediately raised his finger, giving him out LBW.

However, the star batter decided to review the decision. The replay showed a flat line on UltraEdge, confirming there was no inside edge. The ball-tracking system showed three red lights, confirming that the ball would have hit the stumps.

With no luck on the review, Gill had to walk back to the pavilion, leaving India in a tough spot. Matt Henry picked up the first wicket for New Zealand.

India Battle For Top Spot In Group A

India and New Zealand have already secured their spots in the semi-finals from Group A. However, the final group-stage clash will decide the final standings and semi-final matchups. Depending on the result, India will face either Australia or South Africa in the semi-finals.

At the moment, India are struggling at 22 for 2 in 5 overs, with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer at the crease, trying to steady the innings
