In an unexpected turn of events, the stylish opening batsman Shubman Gill had to return to the dugout in the middle of the all-important World Cup match semi-final between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

The 24-year-old, who was in total control having scored 79 off just 65 balls, was down probably due to cramps under scorching heat in Mumbai, and then physio came and checked him before deciding to take him away.

As Gill was forced to retire hurt, Shreyas Iyer quickly came to bat at No. 4.

The incident happened in the middle of the 23rd over when Gill was down on the ground, probably due to Mumbai’s heat. The physio, as well as Gill’s partner-in-crime Ishan Kishan, came out, and soon after, they decided not to take any risk.
