Shubman Gill's journey in Test cricket has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by highs and lows, and his latest innings encapsulated both ends of the spectrum. The 24-year-old batting sensation showcased his mettle by notching up his third Test century for India, a breakthrough achievement after enduring a rough patch that invited criticism from all quarters.

Gill's century, a testament to his talent and resilience, came after a prolonged struggle where he faced incessant scrutiny over his performance in the longest format. Since his previous Test hundred against Australia in Ahmedabad in 2023, Gill had weathered a lean patch, mustering just 173 runs from 11 innings, causing his overall batting average to dip below the 30-run mark.

However, just as Gill seemed to have found his rhythm, fate dealt him a cruel blow. While attempting an audacious reverse sweep, he fell prey to a delivery from Shoaib Bashir, who is playing his debut match ,resulting in a contentious dismissal. Initially given not out, the decision was overturned upon review, confirming that the ball had indeed brushed Gill's gloves before being caught by the wicketkeeper. Gill in the same innings before lunch luckily survived DRS scares twice, but this time he wasn't as lucky.

Despite the disappointment of falling short after a commendable knock, Gill's innings served as a reminder of his potential and resilience. At the time of writing, KS Bharat and Axar Patel are taking charge with India at 220-5.
