Pakistan batting veteran Shoaib Malik heaved Peshawar Zalmi fast bowler Aamer Jamal for a huge six over wide long-on at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Turning up for Karachi Kings in match number six of the ongoing PSL 2024 season, the right-hander provided much-needed impetus to his side, as they aim to mow down Zalmi’s 154-run total.

A few overs later, Malik also dispatched Waqar Salamkheil for a fierce late cut past backward point, as he led Karachi Kings’ recovery following their top-order collapse.

Batting at number four, Shoaib Malik made his way to the crease following the early dismissals of both Karachi Kings openers Shan Masood and Muhammad Akhlaq inside the powerplay. While the 42-year-old started cautiously in his innings, he unleashed the first signs of his aggressive intent against Peshawar Zalmi fast bowler Aamer Jamal.

Malik heaved Jamal over wide long-on for a flat six during the ninth over of the innings.

Unfortunately for Karachi Kings and Shoaib Malik, the seasoned campaigner failed to convert his confident start into a notable score. Malik, a veteran of over 500 T20 matches, perished at the hands of Peshawar Zalmi leg-spinner Waqar Salamkheil for a run-a-ball 29 to his name.

Earlier in the match, Peshawar tallied 154 upfront, with captain Babar Azam nearly amounting to half of his team’s total with a fluent 72.

Shoaib Malik bowled the opening and his only over of the innings, where he snapped Peshawar Zalmi’s talented batsman Saim Ayub for a first-ball duck.
