In nail-biting Match 2 of the Women's Premier League 2024, UP Warriorz succumbed to a slender two-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore Women on Saturday in Bengaluru.

The loss, marked by missed opportunities and close calls, sets the stage for the Warriorz as they gear up to face Delhi Capitals Women in what promises to be an exciting Match 4 of the WPL 2024 on Monday, February 26.

Despite the opening partnership not delivering as expected, with captain Alyssa Healy and Vrinda Dinesh managing only 5 and 18 runs respectively, the team's management seems set to maintain their confidence in the duo. Dinesh's slow pace, consuming 28 balls for her 18 runs, was a critical factor in the Warriorz's defeat. Nonetheless, the young 23-year-old opener is tipped to retain her slot against Delhi.

The middle-order showcases the formidable Australian pair of Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris. Both batters commenced their innings with promise but fell short of converting starts into impactful scores. Harris, however, contributed with the ball, delivering an economical spell and securing a wicket. Despite McGrath's pricier overs, she too managed to claim a wicket. Shweta Sehrawat and Kiran Navgire, despite their contrasting performances, are expected to solidify the batting lineup at positions five and six, respectively.

Poonam Khemnar, who added a quick 14 off 7 balls towards the end, is slated to continue at the No. 7 position. Her potential with leg breaks, although untapped in the previous game adds depth to the Warriorz's bowling options. The spin department, comprised of Sophie Ecclestone, Deepti Sharma, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, demonstrated competence and is expected to be a crucial component in the clash against Delhi.

Saima Thakor, who had a less favourable outing with 23 runs conceded in two overs without taking a wicket, might face competition from Anjali Sarvani or Gouher Sultana for her spot. However, there will be an inclination to give Thakor another chance as it’s been just one game.

As the UP Warriorz recalibrate for their upcoming clash with Delhi Capitals Women, the emphasis will be on strategic continuity, faith in emerging talents, and leveraging international players’ experience.
