[Watch] Shaheen Afridi's Stunning Double Strike Turns the Tide in Bengaluru

Amidst a sea of explosive shots and roaring Australian dominance at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the World Cup 2023 encounter, Pakistan pacer, Shaheen Afridi scripted a turnaround for his team with two sensational wickets off consecutive deliveries which has suddenly brought life back into the match.

AUS vs PAK: Afridi double whammy has broughr Pakistan back into the game

Having been invited to bat first, Australian openers, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner, looked invincible, stitching a formidable 259-run partnership, filled with breathtaking strokes, leaving the Pakistani bowlers scrambling for answers. Both reached their centuries, making it seem like a long day ahead for Pakistan.

However, the 34th over witnessed a strategic masterstroke. Pakistani skipper, Babar Azam, threw the ball back to Afridi, and the speedster didn’t disappoint. Marsh, having scored a brilliant 121 off 108 balls, tried to capitalize on a full delivery angled towards the leg.

But he only managed an inside edge. The ball darted to the short fine leg where Usama Mir, previously guilty of dropping a catch off Afridi, displayed quick reflexes to hold on to a low, sharp catch.

The crowd, sensing a potential shift in momentum, roared louder as Bengaluru's very own Glenn Maxwell walked in. The attacking batter, who represents RCB in the IPL, was promoted in the batting order, presumably to capitalize on the platform set.

However, Afridi had other plans. With a perfectly pitched delivery just outside off, he lured Maxwell into a big shot. Maxwell's ambitious attempt to go big ended with him slicing the ball to Babar Azam at mid-off, departing without troubling the scorers.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing this article, Australia comfortably sits at 269/2 in 36 overs with Warner displaying brilliance at 128 and Steve Smith getting his eye in, batting on 4. Yet, it's Afridi's game-changing over that has set the stadium alight, ensuring the contest remains closely poised.
