Hambantota witnessed an electrifying moment during the opening game of the three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Afridi's unplayable ball left Zadran baffled

All eyes were on Afghan opener, Ibrahim Zadran, who has recently been the backbone of the team's batting lineup. However, Pakistan pacer, Shaheen Afridi had a different script in mind.

Chasing an attainable target of 201, Afghanistan was leaning heavily on Zadran to anchor their innings. But Afridi, with his ability to produce game-changing deliveries, came to the fore in the third over.

Afridi unleashed a fierce short ball that reared unexpectedly. Zadran chose to take on the delivery, attempting an aggressive pull. The outcome? A mishit that sailed comfortably into the hands of Agha Salman at short mid-wicket.

But Afridi wasn’t done yet. Almost as if replicating his intent to dismantle the Afghan batting order, he struck again the very next ball, claiming the wicket of the seasoned Rahmat Shah for a golden duck.

With Afghanistan  poised at 33/4 after 13 overs, the contest is tilted in the favour of Pakistan. Mohammad Nabi and opener Rahmatullah Gurbaz are at the crease and the duo will need to bat their skins out to chase the target

Meanwhile, the Pakistani innings earlier had its moments. Imam-ul-Haq stood tall amidst the ruins, scoring a patient 61 off 94 balls. Supporting roles from Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed ensured that Pakistan reached 201.

From Afghanistan's bowling department, Mujeeb Ur Rahman stood out, clinching three pivotal wickets, while the ever-reliable duo of Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan bagged two each.
