Virat Kohli has an unorthodox bowling action (Twitter)
At a recent award gala, Indian pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar couldn't resist sharing a playful remark about Virat Kohli’s distinct bowling technique.
Bhuvneshwar takes a humorous swing at Kohli's bowling claims
Bhuvneshwar stated that Kohli believes himself to be the best bowler on the squad. He added that there is a consistent concern among the team members whenever Kohli takes up bowling duties, given the risk of potential injury due to his unusual action.
"Virat Kohli thinks he’s the best bowler in the team. We’re always scared when he bowls as he could get injured due to his bowling action," said Bhuvneshwar.
For the record, Kohli has scalped eight wickets on the international stage, with half in T20Is and the remainder in ODIs. Notably, he was the last Indian to claim a wicket in T20 World Cup knockout stages, having dismissed Johnson Charles during the 2016 semifinals at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The camaraderie between the players was further highlighted when Bhuvneshwar was quizzed about an alternative career for Kohli. With a grin, he cheekily suggested ‘WWE’, referencing to a recent IPL episode where Kohli exchanged heated words with Lucknow Super Giants mentor, Gautam Gambhir during IPL 2023.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. All eyes will be on Kohli, who's returning after a brief hiatus away from the game. As the Indian team prepares to face their arch-rivals, Pakistan, in the tournament opener, expectations are high for a winning start.
