The Adelaide Strikers are taking on the Brisbane Heat in the ninth match of the BBL 2024-25. This high octane clash is unfolding in the iconic Gabba, Brisbane.
The Heat won the toss ahead of the game and opted to field first. Both the Heat and the Strikers are in search of their second win in the tournament. The Strikers would have hoped for a good start from their openers. However, this did not transpire as both Matt and D'Arcy Short fell cheaply.
Chris Lynn And Ollie Pope Stabilised The Innings For The Strikers
After the fall of the first two wickets, Chris Lynn and Ollie Pope stabilised the innings for the team. However, the two also failed to bat for long and soon Strikers were 89/4 by the end of the 13th over. It was at this stage that Alex Ross and Jamie Overton got together and started building an effective partnership for the team.
The duo had worked together a partnership of 23 runs and were looking set in the middle when a major miscommunication happened in the middle. On the fourth delivery of the 16th over, Mitch Swepson bowled a good length delivery outside the off stump. Overton cut the ball to the left of the sweeper cover fielder and called for a couple of runs.
Alex Ross Fell Prey To A Brain Fade Moment From Overton
Alex Ross responded to the call for the second run and went out of the crease, when Overton sent him back. By the time Overton denied for the second run, Ross was way down the pitch and it was hard for him to get back to safety. Nathan McSweeney pulled off a brilliant throw to the keeper's end and the bails were whipped off in time resulting in the end of Ross in the middle.
However, after the mishap Jamie Overton made sure that the Strikers got a powerful finish. He scored 45 runs off 24 deliveries and ensured that the team got past the 170 mark at the end of their 20 overs.
