Pakistan's young batting sensation Saim Ayub experienced agonising pain as he was awkwardly hit on the box by South Africa's debutant fast bowler Corbin Bosch during the third ODI in Johannesburg. The match got a delayed start due to rain, with South African captain Temba Bavuma winning the toss and opting to bowl first.
Although Pakistan had the worst possible start to their innings, losing Abdullah Shafique for a duck, Saim steadied the ship with former captain Babar Azam. The duo stitched a valiant stand for the second wicket, ensuring Pakistan's comeback in the final dead-rubber.
However, apart from their elegant stroke-play, an incident that grabbed the attention of the fans was Saim being hit right on the box by Corbin Bosch. The incident occurred during the 17th over of Pakistan's innings when South Africa were desperately searching for someone to break the second wicket stand. Although Bosch couldn't pick a wicket, he did the damage by giving Ayub a low blow with a pacy delivery.
From around the wicket, the right-arm pacer bowled a good length delivery that jagged back slightly into Ayub after pitching outside the off-stump. As the southpaw went for a half-hearted shot off his front foot, he only managed an inside edge, with the ball hitting him awkwardly on the box.
The young opener was left groaning in pain, as he came down on his knees soon after the nasty blow. However, he soon recovered from it and continued batting for the sake of his team.
Pakistan Get A Solid Start In 3rd ODI
Riding on Saim and Babar's partnership, Pakistan have got the foundation for a huge score. At the time of writing, the visitors were 111 for one, with Ayub and Babar batting on 53* and 51*, respectively.
